JOSHUA

“…but as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord. “

Joshua 24: 15

Joshua was a faithful man, loyal and who knew the vision the Lord had given to Moses.  His bravery, courage and boldness to understand, accept and obey the given task of continuing God’s mandate made him a true leader before the crowds, responsible and influential, and this makes him a TRUE HERO!

Joshua, the son of Nun. His name in Hebrew means “YAHWEH is salvation.”  He was first Moses’ trusted helper and minister. He was a military leader during the journey to the promised land. He was the only one who was allowed to climb Mount Sinai with Moses.  When Moses died, he led the children of Israel across the Jordan to the Promised Land (Joshua 1:6).  As representative of the tribe of Ephraim among the twelve spies sent to Canaan, together with Caleb, he became the minority voice that encouraged the people to take the land through faith in God (Numbers 13:6, 8, 16; 14:6, 38).  He led Israel’s armies in a great victory against the Amalekites in the Sinai (Exodus 17:8-16).  As a result, Joshua, one of the Israelites who was over 60 years old, could enter the Promised Land.  A long life and becoming the chief of the militia after Moses’ death were his reward for it. Under his command Jericho and its surroundings were conquered, the land was divided and the refuge cities were established (Joshua 20:1). He always encouraged and exhorted the people of Israel to serve and worship the only God.  He died at the age of 110 and was buried at Timnath-serah.
