ISAIAH

“Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I; send me!”

Isaiah 6:8

His wisdom in carrying the message that out of a fallen kingdom a new kingdom would rise where God would reign and not changing his message to win the people’s favor make Isaiah a TRUE HERO!

Isaiah. In Hebrew the name means “YAHWEH is salvation.” The son of Amoz, he belonged to a family with a high social standing, as proven by the access he had to the court and the king.  He became a preacher at the court, got married and had two children.  Chapter 6 of the Book of Isaiah tells how he was called to become a prophet, in which work he remained active from approximately 740 BC to 700 BC.  He accepted the calling even though he knew it would be fruitless work.  He counted on the assurance God gave him, that from the fallen kingdom a new one would rise where God would rule.  The prophet did not diminish his message in order to earn the favor of public opinion, he said harsh words and remained steadfast pointing to the changes the people had to make.  He moved in the royal circles, and did not acquiesce to what was politically incorrect.  Sometimes he was left alone and he always warned the kings that trusting in military might, wealth or any other force other than God would lead them to disaster.  He died during the rule of Manasseh. He is Israel’s best known prophet, especially for his messianic passages (Isaiah  40, 52 and 53).
