DANIEL

“Soon Daniel distinguished himself above all the other presidents and satraps because an excellent spirit was in him, and the king planned to appoint him over the whole kingdom.”

Daniel 6:3

Daniel, his determination not to contaminate his heart, not to render his soul to other gods covered him with God’s wisdom and supernatural protection, thus turning him into a TRUE HERO!

The name Daniel means “God is my judge.” He was a young aristocrat of Judah that was taken prisoner by Nebuchadnezzar II of Babylon in 597 BC and educated for service to the king. During this training Daniel and his three young friends learned not to contaminate their heart and refused to eat food offered to the idols (Daniel 1:8), and asked for their food to be changed. They were granted what they asked and were subsequently subjected to testing and these young men were found to be in better physical conditions that those who ate the king’s food.  Daniel became popular as an interpreter of dream and as a seer. He predicted the rise and fall of empires and the coming of the Kingdom of God.  Daniel held a post of authority over all the wise men and the provinces of all of Babylon.  Due to jealousy and intrigue from his rivals he was cast in the lions’ den because of his faithfulness in worshipping God (Daniel 6:10-24).  The plot to be rid of Daniel failed thanks to his great faith.  Daniel was a prophet who made God’s cause thrive in the midst of an idolatrous and pagan kingdom.
